We’re back!

After a short hiatus we are now meeting again on our usual 4th Sunday of the month at LGBT Health and Wellbeing.

We will not meet in December (Christmas Day!) but hope to see you in January.

Trans a Memoir

Recently we read Juliet Jacques book, Trans a Memoir. It is a quick read and is a mix of culture you probably know along with culture you probably don’t, but it is a great read, and here is a review incase you aren’t sure (book review).

If you like a different format look through her Guardian blogs. They are a nice context for anyone new to the trans scene in the uk.

It was a book written to Juliet’s 18-year-old self. I definitely got one for my Mom.

all the best,

Trans and Intersex Conference of the Isles

On Saturday 1st November Me & T will be running this workshop at The Trans and Intersex Conference of the Isles:
An opportunity for cisgender people to consider their significant relationship with a Trans, Intersex or Non-Binary person and for Trans/Intersex/Non-Binary people to consider their significant relationship with a friend, family member or partner.

We will be identifying our needs and expectations and those of our close support people. We will then share ideas about showing gratitude for needs being met and to tackling the difficult task of communicating when needs and expectations are not being met.

There are plenty of other great workshops and activities over the weekend. If you are interested you can still book a place: http://islesconference.org/programme/weekend/

September update

Hi everyone,

hope you have all had a good summer.  After our on-off appearances over the summer months, you’ll be glad to know we are now back to our more regular meetings and Elizabeth has kindly updated the calendar with all our plans.  I look forward to seeing you all at a meeting soon.
This Sunday, 28th September from 2-4pm we will be having our meeting at LGBT Health, 9 Howe Street.  Non-binary Scotland are going to come and do a workshop with us.  Perhaps you have someone in your life who identifies as non-binary and you want to understand better.  Or perhaps you have never heard of non-binary identities.  Either way please join us on Sunday to find out more.
In other exciting news, if you are a Diva reader you may have seen my letter in the letter pages.  Following their article about a woman and her trans man partner, I wrote in to tell them about my personal situation and asked them to print details of Me & T for anyone out there who is looking for support.

July Me & T weekend

Hi all,

hope you had a nice weekend.  On Saturday Me & T had a stall at the LGBT Health summer fete and community groups fair.  Thanks to all the volunteers and staff who put so much hard work into making the day happen.
Both stall
Thanks also to everyone who visited the fete, especially those who stopped to talk to Elizabeth and me at our stall.
On the Sunday we had our Pride themed meeting.

Please note that there is no Me & T meeting next month (August) because of the festival. However you can join Me & T at a Fringe festival play by Jo Clifford called “The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven.” Tickets are £12 or £10 concession. Email us if you plan on coming so we can arrange to meet up!
The next Me & T meeting will be Sunday 28th September 2-4pm at the LGBT Centre in Howe Street.
As ever, we are open to suggestions about what you want from Me & T. Is there an activity you would like to take part in? A topic you would like to discuss? Let us know at our email address or Facebook page.

Manchester Support Group

If you are too far away to attend our meeting in Edinburgh, you might be interested in meeting our friends at the Manchester group:
Manchester Soffa’s (Significant Others Friends Family and Allies)

The group is open for anyone to attend who are friends, family,
significant others, partners or children* of transgender people who
feel they need or are able to give support over a variety of issues
surrounding their loved ones transition/gender dysphoria and what it
means to them.  The group aims to be a safe space for SOFFA’S to be
able to chat about their feelings, fears, needs and worries, to build
connections and community and offer support to each other.

Caroline and Rebecca will be on hand to facilitate the first few
meetings and see what members would like to cover and get from the
group in the future.

The groups is free to attend and there will be free refreshments (tea,
coffee and possibly cake!)

Any questions please email me.and.t.manchester@gmail.com
